MONDAY
The articles I will be writing over the next few months will be in relation to creating a business from your writing: whether you are building a career as an author or creating your own publishing business. Writing for pleasure or to explore your feelings or imagination is a fabulous undertaking and will help you grow as an individual, but my mission is to mentor and encourage creative entrepreneurs.
As I have mentioned before, I believe there are 5 Secrets to Publishing Success. Many people will talk about writing, publishing and marketing, however, I believe launching and distribution are equally as critical. Technology can also make a huge difference in time, productivity and earnings as new tools become available. I will cover some of those tools in future articles.
When I started writing, way back in 1988, things were significantly different than they are today. The opportunities were much fewer and far between and it was much harder to do everything except WRITE.
WRITING has always been the easy part of the publishing equation. Now stay with me here. I know there can be substantial challenges when writing depending on the genre, your approach to writing and your enthusiasm for your subject –– but you literally can start today by picking up a pen and a notebook, turning on a document page on your computer or using a recording app on your phone.
The launching, publishing, marketing and distribution of a book is basically a bunch of moving parts and so most of those things take working with others, investing in some technology and learning skills you might not have.
I started WRITING when there were no computers and no cell phones (the dark ages to some of you). I still write long hand on a notebook, then type the notes into my computer then format for the particular type of book and platform … that is just my process. You can do the same or create your own approach.
I would recommend you go back and read the article 7 Steps To Quickly Organize Your Writing Project for some strategies to accelerate or enhance your writing. If you have already incorporated these steps into your writing process … congratulations. Well done!
Over the next few weeks I will continue to share strategies about WRITING ON MONDAYs. If you have any questions about the Writing or Editing Process please ask them in the comments or post them in the Author Adventure Chat and I will respond directly or in a future post. If you have a question then there is someone else reading who has the same question.
Writing is usually the most solitary part of the author adventure so I encourage you to find a writing partner or group and start to engage. We have a Dynamic Authors Group that I lead and I will be sharing invitations periodically for new writers or mature authors (those who have been in the game awhile) to join us.
In addition, I will be adding interviews with other authors, hosting zoom Q&A’s and meet-ups, along with sharing lists, templates and pdf ebooks to help you in your author adventure and book publishing journey. If you want 2025 to be your year to finally write that story, publish that manuscript or starting earning more money as a professional writer and author, then please consider joining as a paid member.
Cheers to your writing success! Liz
