WEDNESDAY
Today’s article is for the reader who is thinking about writing a book but is not sure what kind of book they want to write.
Next week I will discuss where and how you can publish if you have already written your manuscript or story and are ready to move to the next step of actually publishing your writing or prose.
Book Publishing has come along way but there are still some things that have stayed the same. There are still basically three main categories of mass market literature or publishing Children’s Books, Fiction and Non-Fiction. There are multiple genres under each of these and many more sub-genres.
Children’s books still mainly consisted of four areas and are based on age: babies 0-3 years, young children 4-7, tweens 8-12 and young adult 13-18. The books written include early learning, board books, picture books, comic books, graphic novels, and chapter books, fiction and non-fiction.

How-To
I personally write non-fiction and children’s books whether because of my journalism background or my mind just leans more to writing literature that is factual or about real problems and real people.
Spend some time thinking about the book you want to write and again who you want to write for and why. A person reading to be entertained has a different reason for buying a book than the person who wants help with a problem or is looking for skills to be more successful in a particular area of their life.
As I always say, “book publishing has a lot of moving parts” and we will be talking about all of them over the next weeks and months.
Please be sure to share any thoughts or questions in the comments and in March, I will be starting a more consistent chat and sharing some live video.
Cheers to your publishing success, Liz
