LAUNCHING ... Audience is Critical
TUESDAY
As I have mentioned previously, really knowing your Audience is important in all the 5 Secrets to Publishing Success. The more you know your audience, the more your success will grow. Make time to learn as much as you can about your audience. Ask them questions, find out what they like or what they fear or what makes the happy. The more you know the more you can help educate, inform or entertain them.
AUDIENCE
A LAUNCH Plan also includes:
knowing your audience demographics that is the hard data
knowing your audience psychographics that is the soft data
knowing where to find them
understanding the habits, why they buy, when they buy, how they buy
and of course the costs associated with reaching them.
As we mentioned in most of last week’s posts, Audience is critical in so many ways. When you are writing, when you are launching, when you are publishing, when you are marketing and when you move into the distribution process.
Truly knowing all about your audience helps you to understand
What you should write about –– it doesn’t help to write something that no one will buy (to make money with writing you write for your audience first and yourself second).
When you should LAUNCH –– time of day, day of week, any special deal, how long your launch or deal should last.
Whose platform you should publish on (whose fan are they) –– Amazon, Apple, Google, National or Regional Bookstores (Barnes and Noble or Books A Million), Independent Bookstores (your neighborhood).
Where and How you should market –– where do they get their information, where do they hang out offline or online –– do they like photos, gifs, text or videos.
How and Who you should distribute to them –– calls, emails, regular or snail mail –– will discuss these individually in future posts.
The more you know YOUR AUDIENCE the better your chance of making a connection. And, remember that conversation we had about you don’t have enough money to market to everyone. Keep that in mind when working on your Launch Plan and Budget.
Here again you want to start making these connections early –– not after you have published your book.
Your assignment, if you choose to accept it, is to take some time this week and flesh out your launch plan and budget. Think long and hard about your ideal reader. Who you want to help, engage or interact with most.
Your goal for your Author Adventure should be a long and prosperous journey, so be sure it starts off like a rocket.
Cheers to your launching success, Liz
